Let’s talk about the outdoor play spaces at Waverly Belmont.

In 2019, the Bulldog Bolt raised money for a new basketball court to be built on campus. Not long after we had the money in hand, before real planning could begin, the pandemic shut everything down. We’re now ready to restart that process.

Metro Schools has started construction on rebuilding the school driveway and teacher parking lot where the field currently sits, with the field to be rebuilt behind the school later. As part of the parking lot construction, WB PTO will purchase 6 basketball goals and netting with the money previously raised for the basketball courts and those will be installed on a portion of the parking lot. In total we will have 6 half courts for our students to use!

During the 2022 Bulldog Bolt fundraiser, we committed to updating some of our playspaces area. With money raised, we are happy to report that we have completed Phase 1 of the project which was fixing the drainage issue on the Natural Playground and revamping that space to be a more functional and usable space for our students.

Let’s talk about the future of the outdoor play spaces at Waverly Belmont Elementary.

WB has two playgrounds right now: Traditional and natural. The school also owns an unused area above the traditional playground. With these three spaces, a new field to be constructed and basketball courts, we have a lot of potential on campus. Let’s have a conversation about a vision for these play spaces.

A core group of parent volunteers, led by the wonderful and hardworking Aimee Le has spearheaded the efforts to update our play spaces. When we polled the WB parent population and staff at WB, everyone agreed that our play spaces are an important part of our school. We hope to continue to make improvements to the play spaces including enhancing the tree park area which is the space behind the traditional playground.
