Walk/Bike to School Day - Oct 1!

Get ready to move your feet! Meet Coach Dison & Parent Coordinator Andrew Parker at the Sevier Park Basketball courts at 7:15 AM to walk/bike to WB as a group! This is a great way to build community with friends, get some exercise and foster safe walking/biking practices with your kids. Strollers, scooters, bikes, trikes, wagons are all welcome. This is a city-wide event sponsored by Walk/Bike Nashville so schools across Nashville will be participating in their own walk/bike to school events at the same time! So fun for WB to be connected to something bigger than just our community!

Parents...we need a few of you to volunteer to help keep our kiddos safe on the way to school. Click this link to volunteer: https://tinyurl.com/WalkBikeWB

Volunteer at Touch of Brews!

The Waverly Belmont PTO is hosting a tent at the upcoming Touch of Brews festival in Sevier Park on 10/4/25. The WB tent will have table with crafts for children and a way for community members to donate to the school for Bulldog Bolt. The PTO will also host 2 events throughout the day - Pictures with Belmont and a flower crown making session - Led by Carmen Noel.

Volunteers will help us represent the tent, hand out crafts for kids, and ask for donations from the community. We are requesting 2 representatives for each 2 hour shift and someone willing to be Belmont for 1 hour.

We're excited about this new opportunity to involve the community in the Bulldog Bolt this year! Please help us represent and show out for our amazing school.

Note: Each volunteer will get 1 free ticket to the festival ($35 value) and remember that kids under 12 are free!

MNPS CALENDAR UPDATE

The following letter went out to all MNPS families this past week and we wanted to make sure you got these important changes on your calendar!

MNPS Families,

Public schools in Tennessee are required by law to make our buildings available as polling sites for elections. Because the state decided after the school year had already started to schedule a special election this fall, we must adjust the 2025-26 school calendar. The district did not have input into these election dates, which are October 7 for the primary and December 2 for the general election. We have worked with stakeholders to develop a calendar that minimizes the impact on staff and families, and the Board of Education approved these changes yesterday during their regularly scheduled Board meeting.

Calendar Changes:

Tuesday, October 7, 2025 – No Students. Stockpile Professional Development Day.

Friday, October 10, 2025 – No Students. Stockpile Day; no school-based staff report.

Tuesday, December 2, 2025 – No Students. Stockpile Professional Development Day.

Tuesday, January 6, 2026 – Students Report. Regular school day (previously a Stockpile PD Day).

These changes reduce the number of reserved inclement weather days from six to five. If more than five closures are needed, MNPS may implement up to two remote learning days. If required, on those days students will receive instruction and assignments through district-supported platforms. Additional guidance and resources will be provided later this fall to help staff and families prepare for this possibility.

We will share additional guidance later this fall to help families prepare for the possibility of remote learning.

We know families and staff make plans around the school calendar, and our goal is to minimize disruption while keeping safety and instructional time as top priorities. We did not learn of these election dates until after the start of the school year, which is why we are required to amend the calendar now.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

WATCH D.O.G.S.® (Dads Of Great Students) is an innovative father involvement program offered by the National Center for Fathering.  This program focuses on safety and education by using the positive influence of fathers and father-figures for a two-fold purpose:  (1) to provide an unobtrusive fathering presence, and (2) to provide a positive and active role-model for students at the school.  Fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers and uncles are asked to spend at least one day at their student's school volunteering.  They will support the school through monitoring the school entrance, assisting with unloading and loading of buses and cars, monitoring the lunch room, or helping in the classroom with a teacher's guidance either working one-on-one or in small groups. Today thousands of school programs world-wide participate in WATCH D.O.G.S.® helping to engage men, inspire children, reduce bullying and enhance the educational environment at school.
