MARGARET HARRISON: 25/26 PTO HONORARY SERVICE AWARD RECIPIENT

The PTO started the Honorary Service Award several years ago to recognize a PTO volunteer each year that has gone above and beyond in service for Waverly Belmont.  There is a plaque in the front vestibule of the school recognizing each volunteer who receives this award.  This year we would like to honor Margaret Harrison with the Honorary Service Award.  Margaret's son Will attended WB from kindergarten to fifth grade, and her son James will be completing 5th grade at WB this year and moving on to Middle School.  Margaret has been an instrumental volunteer over the years serving as PTO President among other key roles for the PTO.  She led the PTO out of the covid years and set the stage for the PTO to grow, creating the structure we needed to carry the organization forward.  There's no question the PTO wouldn't be what it is today without Margaret's leadership and volunteer hours.  Thank you so much Margaret for all you've poured into WB!

Field Day Volunteer Needs

WB Field Day is coming up on May 15th and this year's theme is BEACH games! Coach Edwards and Coach Dison have an awesome day planned for our kids. To make it a success we need LOTS of parent volunteers!

The sign up is organized in 2 different ways this year - Allowing for some parents volunteer with their child at 50 minute rotations and also so WatchDogs and community volunteers can take half day shifts at particular rotations. Note, all rotations will be on school property this year!  You are also welcome to sign up for multiple slots! If a slot is full and it's the only time you can help, come help anyways, we can use the extra people throughout the day.

PLEASE PRIORITIZE VOLUNTEERING WHEN THERE ARE SLOTS BECAUSE WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!

There are also slots available for when need help at lunch time delivering pizza to classrooms and at the end of day delivering popsicles for cool down treats.

NOTE: The WatchDOG games held on the WB basketball courts are all led by WatchDOGS again this year so we especially need coverage in this area to facilitate games!

Walk/Bike to School Day - Oct 1!

Get ready to move your feet! Meet Coach Dison & Parent Coordinator Andrew Parker at the Sevier Park Basketball courts at 7:15 AM to walk/bike to WB as a group! This is a great way to build community with friends, get some exercise and foster safe walking/biking practices with your kids. Strollers, scooters, bikes, trikes, wagons are all welcome. This is a city-wide event sponsored by Walk/Bike Nashville so schools across Nashville will be participating in their own walk/bike to school events at the same time! Volunteer at Touch of Brews!

The Waverly Belmont PTO is hosting a tent at the upcoming Touch of Brews festival in Sevier Park on 10/4/25. The WB tent will have table with crafts for children and a way for community members to donate to the school for Bulldog Bolt. The PTO will also host 2 events throughout the day - Pictures with Belmont and a flower crown making session - Led by Carmen Noel.

Volunteers will help us represent the tent, hand out crafts for kids, and ask for donations from the community. We are requesting 2 representatives for each 2 hour shift and someone willing to be Belmont for 1 hour.

We're excited about this new opportunity to involve the community in the Bulldog Bolt this year! Please help us represent and show out for our amazing school.

Note: Each volunteer will get 1 free ticket to the festival ($35 value) and remember that kids under 12 are free!

UNICYCLE YOUR STUDENTS' CLOTHES!

As the weather changes and you clean out your student's closets, remember that Waverly Belmont is a UniCycle school! UniCycle is school uniform recycling program that orchestrates the collection and redistribution of gently-used clothing to provide Standard School Attire (SSA) to Metro Schools students who need it. They collect “outgrown, not worn out” items and then distribute them to WB&MNPS students who are in need of SSA approved items!

There is a collection bin just inside the front door of the school waiting to receive your items. Volunteers collect the basket when full, and clothes are carefully screened, cleaned, organized and then sent home to students in need, per request of the HERO staff or other MNPS personnel. This is an amazing way to help other students by passing along cothing items with life left in them!

Also, a quick reminder to have your student check the school Lost and Found for items they may have left behind.  Unclaimed lost-and-found items do make their way to the Unicycle closet if they are not claimed.

WATCH D.O.G.S.® (Dads Of Great Students) is an innovative father involvement program offered by the National Center for Fathering.  This program focuses on safety and education by using the positive influence of fathers and father-figures for a two-fold purpose:  (1) to provide an unobtrusive fathering presence, and (2) to provide a positive and active role-model for students at the school.  Fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers and uncles are asked to spend at least one day at their student's school volunteering.  They will support the school through monitoring the school entrance, assisting with unloading and loading of buses and cars, monitoring the lunch room, or helping in the classroom with a teacher's guidance either working one-on-one or in small groups. Today thousands of school programs world-wide participate in WATCH D.O.G.S.® helping to engage men, inspire children, reduce bullying and enhance the educational environment at school.
